I finally watched "Dominion" yesterday! It was soooo good! Of course, I'm completely disconnected from the Darkseid arc, so Zod didn't bother me. (It's only the 2nd Zod episode I've.) Plus, like you said, interesting echoes of Lex in his desire for a brother and equal.
Mostly I was watching for the awesome character interactions: Clark and Lois, Lois and Tess, Clark and Oliver, and even Ollie and Tess at the end. Poor Ollie! Justin Hartley does conflicted very, very well. I really hope we get tasty Clark-Oliver reassurance in the next ep or the finale. *g*
ETA: I forgot to mention Justin's directing! I thought it was quite good, though the fight scenes were a little too 300 for my tastes. It was a very "guy" episode, all gladiator fighting and desaturated colours.
I think they came up with the plan right after Clark got dumped into the cage next to Ollie. Clark says, "I know how Zod thinks", and the scene cuts away, but that must have been when they worked out a plan.
