I have been looking forward to reading this all day. It was well worth using it as the carrot at the end of a long stick; I loved this! It's so clear how much you love Lois and you touch on the traits of hers that I admire so much.
I will always wish that she had been introduced from the get-go because of how great Erica was as her. I'm so glad that the showrunners' plans (or their restrictions, really) eased up and let her stay on as a permanent cast member despite her recurring/ limited episode run. She's honestly the best part of Smallville for me and you covered many reasons as to why she is.
In fact, it was something she was initially reluctantly drawn to, which was an interesting if unintentional parallel with Clark's own journey to become a superhero. For a Clark that desperately wanted to be normal, it almost made sense that Lois wasn't readily accepting her own destiny at first either. I have never actually thought about this before in this context before. I didn't like this characterisation of Lois because I felt like they had given all of her iconic and familiar characteristics and interests to Chloe. (My frustration was also very coloured by my negative bias towards Chloe, so I was doubly annoyed by this.) I actually much appreciate looking back on season 4 and Lois' journey into journalism through this lens. It makes that choice seem more deliberate to let Lois grow into the woman she becomes, thus giving her an origin story alongside Clark's.
