I'm happy it was worth the wait! I was looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I do love Lois- I immediately chose her when I read the challenge and it is good that it came across. Honestly, I reread it so many times and there were still things I forgot, like how we learned about different likes/dislikes- her love of donuts (relatable) and how we see her doing things like playing video games, and how she is a terrible cook. :D
It would've been nice to get her from the start, as long as Erica was the one playing her, but I don't know if I would've trusted the showrunners with her that long. I feel like we inevitably would've gotten a Lana/Clark/Lois triangle and for the most part, that was avoided. As it is, they had to really drag it so they avoided them getting together - Not sure how they could've done that if she had been there from the beginning. I am definitely glad that they brought her back. DC had some restrictions, from what I heard, in terms of her participation and her relationship with Clark (they only gave them permission to kiss before s6) but it's great that they were able to work around it.
She's honestly the best part of Smallville for me and you covered many reasons as to why she is. Totally! She is a highlight and I'm convinced that it wouldn't have ran as long without her.
I have never actually thought about this before in this context before. It was something I only thought of later. Since they couldn't have Lois, they obviously made Chloe the reporter and it did give some of her more annoying fans fuel that she was the "real Lois" and an excuse to put Lois down, which I hated, though I think the interest in journalism was the only trait they really gave Chloe that was Lois-like. And I ended up being far more frustrated with Clark just kind of falling into journalism rather than having a real interest in it.
The problem was with her inconsistent screen time, her path was a little up and down. They gave hints of the journalism in s4 and then kind of shelved for it for a bit, though she did help Chloe out once or twice in s5. I don't know if I give them enough credit to make it deliberate but it was nice to think about it that way.
