I do follow a lot of the communities once I get interested in an exchange, but there are places like fandomcalendar, fandom_on_dw and potterfests where people promote their stuff. Or I might see it on Discord or another friend's posts. There are a couple I follow that also promote communities/events too which helps me find things I wouldn't have otherwise. :D
