The "you wrote a book" scene from season 6 of Gilmore Girls. It is definitely one of my favorite scenes in a show of which I have many, but as someone who loved Jess and Rory/Jess, this was extra special. Jess was someone who fell into a lot of "bad boy" stereotypes. The guy who everyone else and her mother thought was bad news, but she saw more into, yet in the same way, he also beat some of those same stereotypes. She never said any form of "oh, he is better with me" just that he was good at heart, and at the end of the day, Rory couldn't change him. And it wasn't her job. When he showed up and left in s4, I didn't think we would see him again and while I did think he was in a better place and had a chance to be better - he was reading self help books and had made amends with Luke, promising to pay him back for the money he lent him - where he left off with Rory was kind of sad. I always agreed with her decision to tell him "no" at the dorm, because it was good for Jess to realize that even though he could be better, people weren't going to wait on him to change. To see him return and the way he returned was just the best surprise.

Jess had to change and improve himself, and he did on his own (with support from Luke of course). This scene where he came back and found himself and not only had he gone in a direction that made sense for him, he was expressed gratitude to and for Rory, who believed in him first. And leading to the infamous "this isn't you" scene, I do like how he subtly noticed and picked up that things aren't quite right but didn't confront her on it just yet too. Also, I loved Rory's "I knew it" because she too is at a place in her life where she's uncertain about herself. She fought for Jess for so long, against her own mom of all people, and he ditched her; there must've been something cathartic about realizing that no, she wasn't wrong about him. :D

That is such a great moment! I always kinda liked Rory and Jess together, but it always felt like the timing wasn't right for them. Jess had to grow up a little bit, stop running away from things, and Rory needed to find her way. It was kind of like those "right person wrong time" type of situations.

Yes, I love this! Everything you said about that scene, I absolutely agree. That is one of the best Jess moments in the whole canon and I love it every single time I rewatch it :)

This was the first scene that popped up when I read the challenge so I just went with it. I definitely do love a lot so it was fun to have the opportunity to discuss why. :D

It is! One of those scenes I've rewatched a bunch tbh. I totally agree with you on their relationship- "right person wrong time" is definitely the perfect description. :D

Definitely agreed! It wasn't until my husband that I realized what a bad rep guys in general get, especially the white, straight males... It is SUCH a pleasure to see one raise above all the stigmas and do SO well for himself! And Rory definitely had to play a key part in his improvements. He never would've tried so hard without her encouragement.

I could not disagree more. In life and media, straight white guys have gotten and still get all the representation - they not only get showcased, you also see them play a variety of roles - good guys, bad guys, anti heroes, and also get redemption arcs. The more unique aspect about Jess is that Rory didn't stick with him with the intention of "making him better", which is a trap that many of good girl/bad boy relationships end up falling into or at least one that they used to fall into. I agree he needed her encouragement, and it was good for him to have someone who *saw* him, even before Luke, since he clearly never had that before, and I was happy that he was use that even after he was away.

I agree with you about that scene! It's in my top Rory/Jess moments. She had believed in him and encouraged him on the right path for him (it took a minute but growth can take a minute). And then he turned around and encouraged her back on the track she was supposed to be on.

It is a top moment for me too and I totally am with you on everything you said. I think he wasn't ready to hear what she had to say, because he had never heard it before, so it did take a moment, like you said, but he did get it together and I love how he was able to inspire her right back. Jess still believing and pushing Rory in the Revival too was one of the best parts. :D
