What drew me into fandom was definitely stumbling across it like you did.

What keeps me in fandom land is definitely the people. I'm by no means claiming there aren't arseholes in fandom like everywhere else but fandomland does seem to yield a much higher percentage of people with similar world views and interests to me, even if we don't actually share a fandom (anymore).
