Day 3: What's a favorite, or at least memorable fandom meeting/interaction that you've had?

I have never actually met any fandom friends. I've always been private to the point where I don't even reveal my real name on here, so to meet someone was out of the question. Also I was in my late teens/early twenties when I was first in fandom, which meant I was in college/law school and didn't have a lot of my own money to go freely where I wanted to, and wouldn't have been able to attend cons, etc since my family didn't know about my fandom life.

I've had a lot of great interactions with people online and fandom drama aside, I've enjoyed the people I've gotten a chance to talk to over the years. :D

For sure! You can really make meaningful connections without having a face to face encounter. :D

I met one fandom friend many, many years ago. It was super awkward (because I'm awkward), but a good experience overall bar one thing. I still talk to them on/off every so often.

I'm a lot more private now than I was in the past. I used to tweet and post all sorts of crap under my real name. It didn't end well, lol. Being private and keeping personal details away from fandom life is definitely the way to do it. Especially with how far technology has come. There are too many weirdos out there.

Oh, that's good that it worked out at least! I have my old beta on FB but we never lived close enough to meet, and same with the only other person I thought about meeting.

Yeah, makes sense. I was a little irresponsible when I first got online, with all those AOL chat rooms, but fortunately I was lucky enough that it didn't hurt me. I started out my twitter account as a fandom one and it kind of shifted into reblogging other things but I just don't trust strangers online with my info. And you're right- it's way too easy to find people with limited info.

I did finally meet fannish friends at various cons years ago. It was fun to identify each other. "You're...?" "Yep, and you're...?" :)

Yeah, especially when you grow up with the whole "don't trust people on the internet" mentality. It's hard to get over that.

That's good! Haha yeah I imagine that would have been interesting. There are definitely those I was willing to meet and would've liked to but it just never happened. :D
