Day 13: Squicks - What are some things that squick you in fandom - not necessarily "icky", though it can be. From anything involving blood, to bad grammar.
There are a few things that squick me out. The main one is probably graphic descriptions of bodily functions (like people constantly vomiting- I will scroll right past it, if I really like the fic). I can't deal with a/b/o as a trope, and anything with too much graphic violence/torture is not for me either. Same with rape/sexual assault.
On a less serious note, I don't like to read fics set in a first person POV. I see it and I click the back button pretty quickly. Same with fics that have huge chunks of text with minimal paragraphs. As far as the grammar goes, I don't mind a few mistakes here and there, because I know I make them, especially now that I am self editing without a beta, but if it is just too much, yeah, it does get distracting for me.
And I've lost interest in reading fics where there is open character/ship bashing, even if I don't like the other ship/characters. I get second hand embarrassment way too easily so I know I've written it in the past, but I can't read it anymore, when it's just the main love interest just "showing up" their rival.

I once got into a major argument with someone over grammar in Fanfiction (and I really hate those people who get entitled about it when they can just click out!), so I feel obligated to give anyone with grammar mistakes a chance. Lack of paragraphs is a no from me too. Literally cannot even process the words like that even if I wanted to. In the past I'd make a PDF and edit it myself, but ain't nobody got time for that.
I think the Supernatural fandom is credited as being the reason why A/B/O got so popular, but I feel like it just snowballed out of nowhere. I remember reading a few and not feeling too strongly about it, but... people seem to really like them? Each to their own, lol!

I get giving them a chance and I will always exit rather than criticize because I'm not that person, but if it is too much, I can't do it. And I'm with you on not being able to process the words. I've tried and I have just gotten tired. Oh wow that's smart. I think I'm too lazy and like you said, it takes up time that you usually don't have.
I've heard about SPN being the reason a/b/o got so popular. I didn't know where it came from, just that it seems to be in basically every fandom. It is usually connected with other tropes I don't like so I just tend to stay away, but you're right- to each their own. Fortunately, there is plenty of fics for basically everyone lol

Date: 2021-06-18 03:36 pm (UTC)Welling does seem like an introvert. He had one bad experience at Comic Con with an aggressive fan and didn't go back for years. Even in the ABC interviews they did in the early years, when put next to Rosenbaum briefly (I loved those interviews), you can see him being much more subdued. The majority of the SV RPF shipping had to do with Welling/Rosenbaum, something I never got into even when I used to read Clex fics. And I've read RPF- had brief phases with Pine/Quinto and McAvoy/Fassbender. I think there was some stuff with Welling/Kreuk and some Chlarkers definitely wrote TW/AM. I feel like Clois shippers were the only one who stayed away from that.
The KSITE guy seems like kind of an entitled ass so I don't feel sympathy for him at all. I couldn't go on there for ages, because of the Lois bashing.
