Wow, you wrote a lot! Well done :D And you managed to do all the challenges you signed up for which is even better!

I'm too lazy to do this over at my journal but out of curiosity I'm checking my stats. Somehow, I wrote 204,014 words. I wrote: Cobra Kai (2), JLU (1), Hit The Floor (23!), Superman/Smallville (18), SPN RPF (2), The Mentalist (3) and one more that's unrevealed. Crazy that I wrote that many Clark/Lois stories, lol.

Thanks! I was mostly pleased with it. And I definitely made the exchanges my priority. I needed an extension or two toward the end but I was relieved that I didn't have to default. I failed a few Bingo tables I signed up for though as well as two Big Bangs I definitely shouldn't have signed up for. That was a lesson learned. :D

Wow that's incredible! Go you! And quite the variety. I'm certainly not complaining about the amount of Clois. ;D

Some tips I have for bingos is figuring out potential bingos right off the bat and jotting down 100 words per prompt to see if it's doable (sometimes the cards just don't fit what you're able to do), requesting a smaller card/making your own (3x3 works best for me) or combining all the prompts into one story and declaring blackout bingo. :D

Big Bangs seem like such a throwback now, lol. I will never do one again. They're one of the fandom activities that are fun in theory but stressful in reality. Smaller challenges are a safer bet.

I'm surprised I managed to write so much. Probably because of the lockdown at the start of the year. I only wrote one long fic (and it's 20% of my total). I might try to focus on longer form stories this year.

Those are very useful tips. I will keep them in mind. Thank you! I think my biggest problem is that I will get ideas but want to do too much and then get overwhelmed because the idea sounds so good in my head that I don't think I can get it right on paper, if that makes sense. I need to set more reasonable goals and expectations.

I don't blame you! They can be fun but like you said, stressful. I really wanted to do one idea and then I couldn't get it off the ground. Fortunately my artist was also in a busy state so we mutually quit. The other one was for a Reverse Bang and I just fell in love with the art idea and since it wasn't claimed after, like, twelve hours, I figured it was a sign. That didn't account for my lack of muses. Then again, I shouldn't have taken on big challenges when at that point, I hadn't even written the ship in question before (Sam/Bucky). I think I would be more comfortable now.

You're very prolific for sure! The lockdown/pandemic was legit the only reason I got back into active fandom mode/writing again so I totally relate. Longer form stories definitely leave you more room to play around in and expand and can be nice in their own right.

That makes perfect sense! I've found that writing down the ideas and then letting them marinate works best. The idea that won't leave you alone is the one that you'll have the most success with. And sometimes that's all they're meant to be, ideas that don't go anywhere. Not everything needs to be written in a sense. With my Small Fandom Bang. The original story was a gymnastics AU. I have two pages of notes but in the end, I wasn't feeling it but I was glad to get the ideas down and out of my head.

It depends on what your goals and expectations are. Maybe shifting them is better. So, instead of looking at it as failure/success, you focus more on the effort. So, it's not that you failed at the Big Bang for example, you just wrote what you could and that's okay.

Yeah, I guess having more time or not wanting to focus on the pandemic all the time makes writing a fun prospect again! I think getting into Smallville was a big part of it too. Before that I only wrote HTF fics and didn't read anything, but actually reading stuff inspired me to write more.

I think the main issue I have with achieving longer fics is the time it takes. Writing is one thing, but the editing process is the real struggle. A lot of times I just get to a point where I wrap the story up earlier for the sake of my sanity, lol.

Solid advice! Maybe 2022 will be the year I finally get the one that haunts me the most, my Clois fake dating idea, out of my head and into a word doc. At the very least I can say I tried. Like you said, sometimes, it doesn't go anywhere but it is now out of your head and I need to not be afraid of it not working out. The toughest part is starting out after all. And it is good that you knew it wasn't working and shifted gears rather than trying to force the story.

Totally fair. I will try to aim for that mentality. Plus not now doesn't mean never, right? Shifting expectations is definitely a long term goal that I need to work on. Along with my need for things to be perfect on the first go. My sister calls me out on that one a lot. :D

For me, I had never worked remotely (we weren't set up for it) so when things were slow, I had this extra time and I just drifted back into writing. I can see how getting into a new fandom can spark up some new interest too. For the longest time I only wrote Smallville fic and I think recently, signing up for stuff has made me branch out.

Oh yeah, true about the time longer fics take and it also feels like there needs to be more planning involved. Longer fics tend to need some sort of structure while I am more of a 'have a few ideas for scenes in my head and go with the flow' type person. The editing is definitely also another factor. I think I used to write multi chapter stories more when I was originally in fandom because I had a beta on hand that I would chat with every day basically (oh, AIM- I miss you) and it was easy to send them stuff immediately and vice versa.

I never really understood when people used to want a particular person to write for them because I was mostly okay with everyone, until you wrote for me for Trick or Treat. I totally was like "I hope they don't get sick of writing for me, because I want them to always!" ♥

Sounds good! I always like recc'ing and Smallville is one of the few fandoms where I can do so more easily. When fandom was at its peak, there definitely was a lot of content. Of course I totally agree with you on the perfection of Clois.

LOL you're giving me too much credit. I honestly didn't give much thought to Thor ships in the past- I was like "Thor/Jane is cute" but I didn't actively seek out content either, and I loved Sif on her own and I liked the idea of Thor/Sif, but I really just offered it for a rare pair exchange on a whim and I enjoyed the experience. :D
