I think I tend to start out with short sentences without a lot of description. Sometimes, it is dialogue, and usually, one of the main characters gets mentioned right away. Beginnings and endings are a struggle so I try to find a way to just get it going.

your words on paper (linger in my heart) (Gilmore Girls, Rory/Jess)

Rory recognized his handwriting immediately.

i was waiting (for you) (MCU, Bucky/Sam)

"Did you hear about the soulmate app?"

all that (and a bag of chips) (DCEU, Clark/Lois)

Almost there, just a little closer.

let me hold on (to you) (My Adventures with Superman, Clark/Lois)

Clark dreamed of death.

not what i planned (but so much better) (Gilmore Girls, Paris/Rory)

"Yeah, mom, I don't think I'm making it out tonight."

an unexpected connection (MCU, Steve/Tony)

In the end, it's easier than Steve expected.

maybe they're seeing (something we don't) (MCU, Bucky/Sam)

"You should bring Bucky."

you make it better (MCU, Natasha/Sam)

Sam was restless.

everybody talks too much (Gilmore Girls, Rory/Logan/Jess)

Much like almost every small town (which was why Jess wasn't a fan of them), Jess knew that Stars Hollow was famous, or rather infamous, for their gossip.

only you (can see me) (Passions, Fox/Theresa)

Theresa woke up with a headache.

First, great idea and I'm totally stealing it. Second, I too think I start a lot of stories with very short sentences that throw readers into a situation-- or long run-on-sentence character building-- there is no in between. 🤣

Steal away! I am glad more people want to do it - it is fun to see what the answers are and the unintentional patterns. Haha I get that! Either it is a long intro or just barely there. I just want to get into it so I keep it short. :D

When I started writing fic, I used to write overly explanatory paragraphs detailing (and often repeating) what the character did to get to where the story started until someone advised me to just trust the reader and it's something that has stuck with me since. Since I don't like intros so I figure getting to the action is the best way to go. I am glad it works! :D

Nice and succinct! I was about to say same here, but now that I'm thinking about it I know I can get unnecessarily wordy when writing so maybe not lmao. I'll have to snag this meme and take a look at my stuff just to see.

LOL I get that. I just don't like beginnings and endings so I try, for the most part, to get them over with. You should definitely snag and take a look! It's interesting to see what patterns come up.
