Challenge #6:
Share your favourite piece of original canon.

Of course Smallville is my forever fandom and there are a lot of shows/books/movies I could go off of and state my favorite scenes, but I'm going into something that I got into last year (late to the party as always): 9-1-1, the firefighter procedural formerly on Fox and now on ABC.

That's a show that was on my watch list forever, but I'm terrible about watching/reading ... well, anything. I'm definitely one of those "yeah, I will add it to the list" and never actually get to the list, letting it grow forever. What can I say? Scrolling on IG is easier than trusting a new canon.

Anyway, I finally got into the show. I shouldn't have been surprised that Eddie Diaz ended up being my favorite - there are traits that he shared with characters I've loved in the past - but I was surprised at how much I did end up shipping Buck/Eddie, since, as much as I love friends to lovers, the "best friends" ship has never done it for me. I figured I would prefer them as friends. And I do adore their friendship too. Which is why, even if it isn't the most unique option, I had to go with the will reveal in season 4, episode 14.

Context (and spoilers): Eddie got shot at the end of the previous episode by a sniper targeting first responders, right in front of Buck, who ended up being the one to pull him to safety, and into the engine as they all made to safety and get Eddie to the hospital. It was rough on Buck, who ended up having a breakdown in front of Eddie's son, Christopher, when he told him the news and felt guilty. Eddie lived and Buck told him that it would've been better for Chris if Buck had been shot instead.

Leading to following scene, where Eddie admits that after he got into a life threatening incident the previous, he changed his will to make Buck Christopher's legal guardian.

He told Buck he's not expendable, which is so meaningful because Buck found out earlier that season that he was a savior baby (yeah this show can get wild) and had some real doubts on his own existence. And it was the first (and only) time Eddie has called Buck (a nickname off his last name "Buckley") his first name, "Evan".

Yes, it was crazy that he waited a year but man, just how much Eddie trusts Buck, the phrasing "no one will EVER fight for my son as hard as you will", because it implies he couldn't imagine anyone in the future as well, and the depth of their bond and Buck's place in Christopher's life.

It just gets to me every time.

I love the 9-1-1 shows. They're such a perfect combination of unashamedly buck wild, and stunningly insightful and sincere with bits you can watch over and over.

I absolutely agree! I haven't watched Lone Star, though it looks appealing, but I do love that it has a mix of funny and heartfelt. One second there's a zoo escape and the next, people are having deep heart to hearts. Sometimes in the same episode! :D

Amo Smallville, estou revendo a série que nunca pude terminar corretamente, mas já ouvi falar muito de 9-1-1 e todo mundo ama Eddie e Buck, até eu que não estou no fandom, nunca vi nem li nada deles também gosto. Para você ver como algo bom pode influenciar até quem não tem contato u.u

Oh, it's great that you're rewatching and still loving Smallville! That was me with 9-1-1 - I knew people who watched it but didn't myself. There are so many canons that are also like that, where you feel fondness toward it because someone you follow and are friends with enjoys it, which is nice. :D

9-1-1 eu conheço mais pelos perfis que sigo e alguns mutuals que sempre falam da série, mas ninguém especificamente que tenho amizade profunda é desse fandom em específico. Mas entendo o sentimento, meu colega foi introduzido a Doctor Who e Torchwood por mim que compartilhei alguns prints da série (Jack e Ianto) para ele que se apaixonou. No entanto eu mesma não sou fã, nunca assisti nem consumo nada desse universo, foi só uma casualidade do destino *risos*

I think it was people I knew on Tumblr who were into it so I only knew these characters by name and through some gifs that passed by my dash. My sister actually watched the first few seasons, but we never talked about it. And that is funny how you got someone else into a show that you weren't even watching! :D

Meu colega é fã de Torchwood desde aquele dia, me lembro que foi um print com o Jack falando sobre a água do planeta ter remédios que o impediam de engravidar. Meu amigo ama mpreg e eu também. Achei legal isso ser citado canonicamente, por isso enviei a publicação do Facebook a ele, que viu, curtiu, compartilhou e semanas depois já estava maratonando a série e criando fic para eles. Cheguei a fazer a capa dela por sinal. Nem ele acredita que eu tive essa capacidade de fazer ele ficar fanático por algo que eu mesma jamais consumi. São coisas da vida como diz a canção *risos*

Oh, wow, he really went all in! I only know a bit about Torchwood because people who I shared a fandom with were also into that, and I found things out by osmosis but that is pretty cool. And yeah, I bet it is hard to picture for sure! :D

Depois ele também passou a gostar de Doctor Who. Somos o tipo de pessoas que gostam das coisas por motivos dos mais diferentes e as conhecemos sempre assim de forma bem estranha *risos*

I'm sure not everyone who likes Torchwood liked Doctor Who and vice versa, but it does make sense that he does. But it is also funny how that is! The way people can find different things to hold on to from the same piece of media is interesting. :)

A vida tem meios estranhos de se mostrar única por aí... Eu nunca imaginei achar uma série com mpreg canônico, indicar para alguém e ele se tornar viciado na série e outras relacionadas. Foi algo legal u.u

It definitely does! That's quite the adventure and as a bonus, makes for a fun story too.

It is! I struggle to make time to get into things so it's fun to find something new and enjoyable. And it is a very solid relationship! I love it a lot. :D

Hee, yes, I enjoy the 9-1-1 verse nonsense! I didn't get super far into the episodes of original 9-1-1, but everything about Buck and Eddie's friendship/relationship sounds excellent - I get why you like it! :D

It is chaotic in the best type of way! And I wasn't sure about it going in or how much people had exaggerated it, but I found myself drawn in pretty easily. There are good romantic ships, but the show really nails in terms of the friendship/family bonds (minus unnecessary parental redemption at times).
