Finally got to the last set! :D
31. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
Depends on the canon/ship. I think I've done both. Unless it is an AU, I try to do my best to stay canon compliant unless the canon conflicts with what I want to do. For instance, with Clark/Oliver, I very much handwave things if I want it to be set in s8 or later or in other canons, just because I hate breaking up Clark/Lois. I am not going to rewatch the whole canon so there's obviously going to be things I have forgotten so nothing will ever be perfect and I'm fine with that.
32. How do you feel about smut?
I enjoy reading it now and then but prefer it as part of a fic with a plot. I'm rarely drawn to PWPs. I don't write it myself, because I'm far too awkward.
33. How do you feel about crack?
I am not funny or witty enough to write it myself, and I don't really read it. It's okay, but I get second hand embarrassment pretty easily, which makes it harder to get through those type of fics (and other media).
34. What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?
My limits on dub-con are probably sex pollen type stories. Otherwise, I'm just not a fan. I don't write it or read them. I get uncomfortable about non-con in general anyway; I won't read or watch something where it plays a big role.
35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?
I have in the past, off screen, but if it is a character I care about, no. Well, unless I'm aiming for a deliberately sad fic, which I rarely do. Otherwise, character death would only ever be presumed or temporary.
36. Which is your favorite site to post fic?
AO3. It's just the most convenient and I find it pretty easy to use. I used to post in full on DW (and LJ) but I've gotten lazy and just post the link these days. When I got back to fandom, I used to crosspost to FFN too but they're so frustrating and I hate how you can't edit without replacing the whole document.
37. Talk about your current wips.
Outside of exchange fics, I still have a couple:
'i'm superwoman with an s on my chest (but can someone just know me): My Clark/Lois role reversal fic. This is the one I've been dragging out for a while, which was originally supposed to be for the heroine big bang. I've gotten distracted with other things but I am hoping to get it done by the end of the year, which is kind of a lofty goal but fingers crossed! :D
it's easy to pretend (that we don't have something real): My Clois fake dating fic for the Het Big Bang. Picked a posting date of Oct 28th. It got longer than I planned (don't they always) and I need to get the rough draft by Saturday. I kind of regret jumping around with the scenes after some point because I need to tie them all together but I wanted to make sure I wrote them down before I forgot the ideas.
sunflower auction fic (1/2): It's a Sam/Bucky fake dating meets 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' story. I'm still in the outlining process but I need to get it together.
There's always more but these are the major ones.
38. Talk about a review that made your day.
I've been lucky enough to get many nice comments so this is recency bias because I can't remember everything but I got this one on my Clois fic, all i want (is you):
I feel like I'm bragging but ngl, I was really flattered and smiley about this for days. I am somewhat of a rambly commenter but I do think it goes to show that shorter comments can be just as (or sometimes even more) impactful.
39. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
Thankfully, very rarely. It depends on what kind of comment it is. I got one for a Rory/Jess fic I wrote and posted on FFN and some person was just like "eww" which what can you even do but laugh and delete? I replied to someone who made a somewhat condescending review on a Clark/Ollie fic but most of the time, I think deleting is the best option.
40. Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one).
I haven't finished my Excelsior/boarding school Clark/Oliver fic. The plot is Oliver making a bet to get the new kid (Clark) in bed and while it will definitely have a happy ending, it would be interesting to have a bittersweet one. Obviously I wouldn't kill Oliver Cruel Intentions style, more like Clark forgives Oliver but decides he can't be with him. Then there could be a shorter sequel set years later after Oliver's already ended up on the island and is starting to figure out his GA life and they find their way back together. I could see the final scene of the fic at Oliver's graduation and them saying goodbye and I could use the line from 'Justice', where Oliver is like "This isn't the end of the story. This is just the beginning." Or maybe even have Clark say it. But I want to close the book on that fic not drag it longer so happy endings all around! :D

Everything you do is magic. I love the way you write. You make me so happy when you upload. Thank you

Date: 2022-10-07 03:57 am (UTC)I am not going to rewatch the whole canon so there's obviously going to be things I have forgotten -- I feel this so much! Thankfully, the wiki pages are such a big help for this! When I was writing my epistolary fic I was supposed to watch and write and...I ended up steamrolling through the rewatch, lol.
I'm rarely drawn to PWPs. I don't write it myself, because I'm far too awkward. - can relate. :D

Date: 2022-10-07 05:29 am (UTC)Thankfully, the wiki pages are such a big help for this!
Too true!
It's nice to know I'm not alone! I will try and it doesn't sound hot at all. :\ Maybe one day!

Date: 2022-10-07 11:38 am (UTC)Also, best thing to do with rude reviews is definitely just delete, I think. If you start interacting with people like that, it just creates a bigger mess, usually :)

Date: 2022-10-08 07:05 am (UTC)Agreed. They're just being rude and/or seeking attention and the best decision is to not give it to them especially since they rarely put their name on it in the first place. No point in wasting the time and energy.

Date: 2022-10-08 03:23 pm (UTC)With crackfic, I guess it depends on your definition of what exactly crack entails. I've written the Leverage characters into a version of Cinderella in which Hardison was a cat for a while, so I guess that's crack, but even writing an AU where all of the Avengers are in college is probably considered somewhat cracky. I don't know, I just don't go overboard absurd very often, it's not really my thing.
The most annoying reviews/comments I get is when someone is like, 'Ugh, why would you put those two characters together, yuk!' or similar, because my fics are clearly labelled with the pairings involved, so why did they even open the fic and start reading if they don't care for that pairing?! That really bugs me. #rantover

Date: 2022-10-09 05:10 am (UTC)That's a good point. I wouldn't consider college AUs crack because they're so common in various fandoms but I can see Hardison being a cat might be considered to be that. And yeah, going overboard isn't my thing either.
Oh yeah, that is annoying! It's like they specifically clicked it to give you hate, as if that will sudden leave you with an epiphany and be all "you're right random user! I shall now abandon this ship completely because of your wise words!" Morons. Those are the ones that I would definitely delete on sight.

Date: 2022-10-07 01:11 pm (UTC)I never worry about canon too much. I figure fanfic is messing with it, anyway, and TPTB often ignore their own canon as well.
I will make an effort to check a detail or whatever, but if I get it wrong, big whoop! 😝
I have killed off favorite characters (Dick seems to be my go-to), but that's because sometimes I'm in need of a catharsis fic or exploring the nature of grief. I don't write those very often, but when the urge hits, I do.
You know me! My stories tend to be more upbeat. 😄
I rarely write PWPs, cuz I really need to be in the mood. Ironically, I hadn't written sex scenes in ages and now my latest project requires several. 😏

Date: 2022-10-08 07:09 am (UTC)For sure - sometimes fans remember the details better than the showrunners! And when you're dealing with comics, well, they reboot on their own anyway! No use in wasting time if you forget a minor detail here and there.
Writing out your feelings in the form of fanfic can definitely be a good way to express yourself.
Haha I do! And I'm the same way.
I get that. But hey, that's a fun change! :D
