I also LOVED Rajah, of course!
And despite what I mentioned above with Belle, I do LOVE a bad ass woman who also happens to be a bookworm! :)

Rajah made me want a tiger of my own for sure. He's my favorite animal sidekick.
That was why Belle was always my second favorite, because I was a bookworm like she was. I think strength can come in many forms and a character does not have to kick ass just to be valid. Outside the scene where the Beast kicked her out (and she rightfully ran there), she did a good job of standing up to him, even though she was more "gentle" than other princesses.

Belle and Jasmine have constantly argued for the place of my second Princess. LOL But Pocahontas will always be first!
I wanted a tiger long before Rajah, but he certainly was one of my favorites at first sight!

I was young enough when I saw Aladdin that I hadn't thought of a tiger before that lol He definitely made an impression! :D

Pocahontas will forever be my favorite, and I hate that so many people cut down on Disney romanticizing her legend so much! I truly wish they had never made a sequel and had just left us thinking that Smith could have come back for her in that world. It actually inspired me to read and research on her, so I know how horrific her life actually was. And probably would have never done so if I hadn't first fallen in love with her character in the movie.
And yes, I'm native myself -- 25% proud Apache with about a dozen different, other tribes mixed in -- so I do get how important the Native American history is, as is all cultures, but true fans actually look into the real life versions of the characters... It's a way to get MORE people interested in the culture and actual facts instead of less...

I imagine most of the criticism came from the fact that in real life, she was a child and he was an adult. It still may have gotten some backlash but not as much if they were of similar age. Anastasia romanticized her story too but that doesn't seem to have as much pushback. I've heard that China wasn't ever happy with the Disney version of Mulan either. I don't think the sequel was well received - I know they probably figured it was nice to throw in her real life husband but I haven't met anyone who loved it.
A lot of Disney movie fans are kids and while it is great that it inspired you, especially since you have your heritage, not everyone is like that. There are probably many people like you, but plenty of people are more likely to take it at face value or just forget about it right after.
